Speechify alternative on the Mac: Speechify vs Corvi
Last updated: 2026-10-29
Speechify is a read-aloud app that reads text and documents in natural voices on Mac, Windows, iPhone, Android and in the browser; its paid plan adds AI summaries, chat and dictation. Corvi is a Mac app built around one key: tap Fn to hear a spoken summary of whatever is on screen, double-tap to ask about it, hold to dictate. With Corvi you hear the gist first, in every Mac app, and type by voice with the same key.

Two ways of listening
Speechify's core is word-for-word reading: you hear the whole text, in a voice and at a speed you choose. It's built for books and long documents you want to hear in full.
Corvi starts from the opposite end: it tells you what matters in 3–5 sentences and lets you ask for more. That's the right tool when the question is "do I need to read this, and what does it want from me?": e-mail threads, reports, documentation, long videos, chats you joined late.
What you get with Corvi
- You want the gist first, not the full text. One tap, a few sentences, then decide.
- You want it in every Mac app with the same key: Mail, Slack, Notion, PDFs, YouTube, browsers.
- You read in a second language. Corvi summarizes an English text in your language, in any of 35 languages.
- You also type a lot. Hold the same key to dictate into any app.
- You want the AI features without a subscription for now. During early access everything in Corvi is free.
Try Corvi in five minutes
- Download Corvi and give it the Fn key during setup.
- Open the longest unread e-mail thread in your inbox and tap Fn: hear what's asked of you and by when.
- Double-tap Fn and ask a follow-up, such as "Who's waiting for my answer?".
- Open an English article and hear its gist in your own language.
- Click into the reply field, hold Fn and dictate your answer.
Stop typing. Stop reading. Talk and listen.
Corvi is free during early access. Setup takes a minute; if you don't like it, drag it to the Trash.
